CHRISTINE

Mother, seamstress, pattern maker, & dancer. I'm a Chinese American raised by my Vietnamese grandmother & my childhood was one filled with adventure and fun. I spent lots of time playing games with neighborhood friends in the street; playing dodgeball, hopscotch and jump rope games - doing all the things kids used to do before technology. My biggest personal challenge has been raising my daughter as a single mom while balancing work and being an entrepreneur. I love getting to show my daughter the things I do like sew & dance, while also helping her balance her own interests. I’m happiest when I'm able to make my daughter happy & watch her enjoy life. I’ve felt not good enough & like I don't fit in at times. But, I always try to remind myself to pursue my dreams and do what makes me happy. I'd advise young girls to remember everyone is different, don't be afraid to bring out your true personality for fear of judgment. I wish women judged themselves and others less. I'm excited about the future of my business. My dream is to help young kids find their inner creative self by showing them different aspects of the design industry. There's more to the creative industry than being a designer; you can also be the person who makes the designs come to life and that is very rewarding too. In 10 years I hope to have a brick and mortar store where I can sell my clothing, accessories, home goods and our custom sewn clothing services. I also hope to teach sewing workshops to the community. Success for me is being able to work for myself and take care of my family. Happiness comes from laughter and enjoyment. Beauty is found in something or someone that is genuine and has pure intent. I want to be remembered for being a supportive mom as well as someone who contributed to my community, specifically the youth. I feel in life you must believe in yourself, follow your instinct, and not follow what everyone else is doing or telling your to do. I believe changes in life are good and you must find the things that make you happy. I’m most proud of being an Asian American. I am Christine. I am proactive. I am curious. I am passionate.
